Becky TaylorI'm Rebecca Taylor, and I was the Liberal Democrat candidate for Central Hove in 2011. Mark Collins. I came to Brighton & Hove to study at the University of Sussex and for the past 11 years have got involved in city and community life. Most recently I serve as church council secretary at St John the Baptist Church, Palmeira Square; I also write for local media. Many years of work as a freelance translator and EFL teacher have given way to greater involvement in the charity sector. My involvement in the LGBT community, local groups and charities has stood me in good stead in becoming LGBT Spokesperson for Brighton & Hove Liberal Democrats, alongside Councillor Paul Elgood. Any spare time goes to getting out and about in the city, enjoying the sea, going to the gym and sampling the café culture! I am standing for election because I want to make a difference to our city. Like many people here, I choose to live in our city because I love it. Though I value the jobs and revenue they bring, I want to fight against too many big businesses making the centres of Brighton and Hove bland and uninspiring. I support local businesspeople and those who want to invest in the city and its unique vibe. I want to work for a safer city, making sure antisocial behaviour is tackled and residents are safe on the roads. And I especially want to improve the lives of those who live in Hove where I’m standing for election. Under the Conservatives, Central Hove has been left to rot, with residents’ concerns ignored. I believe in listening to residents and working to fulfill their wants and needs, all year round. Rebecca Taylor – working for Hove
