The Boundary commission released its recommendations on 4th October 2022 for the new ward boundaries for the City of Brighton & Hove. There will be 23 wards, an increase of two, and the number of councillors will remain unchanged at 54. These changes need to be approved by parliament before they take effect.
With the threat of record temperatures of a possible 43ºC in parts of the UK, B & H Lib Dems call on the government to take urgent action to control carbon emissions in the UK. Whilst we accept that it will not impact global warming to a great extent, it is important that the UK leads by example if we are to ever achieve global targets of carbon neutrality and reductions.
As the battle to lead the Tory Party enters the middle stages the candidates and their supporters continue to fight amongst themselves with the majority promising tax cuts as the country increasingly teters on the edge of recession and higher interest rates. The promise of tax cuts as public services enter a period of mass strikes and austerity continues to slash general access it only goes to show how ill fitted they are to lead the country. The sooner a general election is called the better it will be for the country.
The latest candidate list for the leadership of the Tory Party now stands at eleven with a possible twelfth pondering whether to make a pitch. In a sign of just how much of a mess the Tory Party is in, and an example of how weak it has become, the list of contenders shows how embarassingly weak the ranks of the senior members of the party are. Expect dirty dealing to become the norm as the standards represented by Johnson continue to erode all signs of decency in their manner of operating.
The Liberal Democrat Candidate, Richard Foord, overturned a huge Tory majority of 24,239 to win the Tiverton & Honiton By-Election by a margin of 14.43% with a majority of 6,144. In a catastrophic day for the government they lost a seat which had one of their biggest majorities. If that swing was repeated throughout the country in a general election it would wipe out the Tory Party as a force in British politics. The government also lost to Labour in the Wakefield By-Election with a swing to Labour of 12.69% as the Labour candidate, Simon Lightwood won the seat with a majority of 4,925. In the fallout from the results the Tory Party Chair Oliver Dowden has resigned.
The Office for national Statistics today announced that inflation is currently running at 9%. A poll by Ipsos found that 1 in 4 people skip meals as a result of the rise in prices and that 44% have changed supermarkets in their quest to seek lower prices.
